Last year, we covered the Swedish Startup Year 2013. Well, we are just about to close 2014 and for the Swedish startup community, it’s been a big one.
The inaugural Sthlm TechFest took place. 3000 people, 100 startups, 40 speakers, 13 foodtrucks, 2 DJs and 1 spectacular event. With a pre-day VIP super-cruise and dinner culminating at the Absolut Atelier, and auxiliary events including Klarna’s Women_Create/Tech event, and STING’s onsite startup/Investor matchups, the day was filled with great content in all-day panels on topics ranging from gaming, CSR, commerce, growth, ads, and media. The afterparty hosted by Absolut meant this event was nothing short of an actual “fest”
Uppstart was started in 2014, the first large scale tech startup meetup to happen in Uppsala to accommodate it’s growing tech scene. 1067 free tickets were registered over the year and 3 events were held, attracting some big speakers on stage covering topics on building and investing in early stage tech companies including Northzone, MOOR, Gullspång Invest, Tictail, Vint, Freespee, Daniel Laurén, Anette Nordvall and Erik Byrenius. As the events have scaled, event organiser Jason Dainter says the next event on the 11th Feb 2015 will be the biggest to date being held in Uppsala Castle with a full days events including a VIP pre-event for start-ups raising money to meet investors, the main event and an after party.
SUP46 Turned 1
A little over a year ago, Swedish Startup Space was among the first startups who were working from SUP46. The two others were Safello and Instabridge. As a symbol of SUP46s importance over the past year, both Instabridge andSafello have both raised a lot of capital and grown significantly.
Located in the heart of Stockholm, SUP46 gathers “tomorrow’s Swedish success stories” within Internet, media, mobile and gaming with now over 40 startups as members. With the backing of Swedish and international top VCs and accelerator partners SUP46 gives its members a clear head start.
SUP46’s vision is that Stockholm becomes the #1 startup city in the world. To support Swedish entrepreneurs SUP46 aims to build a world class ecosystem, and just in time for the one-year anniversary the startup hub now expand its business.
