Kanban + Basecamp = KanbanBase

Written by on October 16, 2014

For those who are unfamiliar with to the term kanban, it’s a simple yet sophisticated scheduling system. The concept was picked up by Toyota in order to improve and maintain a high efficiency level of production. The system has been faithfully used in software development for quite a while now and has resulted in improvements in flow and productivity.

I remember myself falling in love with the concepts of kanban once upon a time, plowing through books and a bunch of online courses on the subject. Eventually it utterly failed despite my efforts, but nevertheless the basic ideas of kanban (limit work-in-progress, etc.) have stuck with me since.

KanbanBase is a visual project management tool that might have helped me back then, and might help you implement a kanban workflow. The tool displays what everyone in the team is doing right now and in the near future, allowing transparency and hopefully swift progress.

There are plenty of project management tools out there, so why should KanbanBase be used you may ask? Well, according to the startup themselves they stand out from the rest (duh!). They say that their competitors lack intuitiveness, quickness and usefulness. The KanbanBase tool works in collaboration with Basecamp and fill up those holes that other management tools have. “We choose to partner with Basecamp because we can combine the strength of both products. Basecamp is stable, trustworthy and well known, while KanbanBase is smart, fresh and innovative”

KanbanBase was just launched in March 2014 with the headquarter based in Gothenburg (Gibraltargatan), Sweden. In just six months, they have already gained few hundred users without the use of any marketing. The most exposure they are getting is through current users recommending it to their friends. In the coming year they are going to add new features, a mobile and a desktop version of the app. “Our goal is make the users more efficient and doing successful projects. With that we aim to have a few thousands of core user that really loves KanbanBase.”

With already similar tools in the market, they are sure to face tough competition. Having said that, they are definitely one to watch for the coming year.
