Can Greenely help Swede’s reduce their utility bills?

Written by on August 19, 2014

Greenely is a Swedish startup with a vision for sustainable development of the environment. They have created a mobile application that allows you to visualize and manage the energy consumption of your home.

Energy consumption has always been a major concern on a worldwide scale. People are becoming more aware of alarming environmental issues and everybody wants to contribute their share to save energy. Greenely believe that technology can play a huge role in helping individuals take concrete action towards managing their energy consumption. Their technology is capable of tracking, monitoring, analyzing, predicting and even generating necessary warnings regarding the energy consumptions of households.A nifty little feature is that the app provides a personalized virtual “living energy tree” which either blossoms or wilts according to the amount of energy used; the growth is of course inversely proportional to energy consumption.

In just less than a year, the company has been accepted to a European sustainable energy accelerator KIC InnoEnergy, and has received funding from the Swedish Energy Agency. The company aims to start working in the American market later this year.

With Google’s massive acquisition of Nest, the “green home” is definitely one of the hottest spaces in tech right now, however Greenely are not the only company working on this in Sweden. We recently wrote about nGenic – who launched their product Tune, which also helps Swedes analyse their energy consumption and optimise accordingly.

The big question on everyone’s minds is: can these companies break through and become a mass consumer product? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
