PinMeTo is a Swedish startup that helps companies find various locations generated by users on Social Media channels, and consolidate those into correct location tags. The company has developed a tool that collects location data and information about companies based on API’s from Facebook, Google, Foursquare and Instagram. Companies can correct any inaccuracies themselves using PinMeTo’s tools.
A common problem nowadays for global companies is with the wrong information about their location and information on web search and other social media platforms. Many companies rely on in-person visitors and social media platforms such as Facebook, Google, Twitter and Instagram that allow customers to find and contact them. Having multiple location tags for an individual retail outlet for example is common, and leads to diluted activity on social media channels.
PinMeto has won the prize for best idea at the Hackathon ‘Meet and Hack’ in spring 2013 and also has been selected for the ALPHA program at Web Summit in Dublin in October 2013.
The product’s scope is seriously limited today, so I’m very curious to see what they have up their sleeve, I’m convinced they want to do more than just tell you that your address is inaccurate on your Facebook page. If they are able to build up a mighty database of company locations, that’s fairly valuable information when it comes to advertising and marketing, so perhaps that’s the direction they head in.
