For those of you who weren’t aware, there are currently around 10 companies sitting at SUP46 who are participating in the Sting FastForward program - a 4-month program which allows young Internet companies access to Sting’s various resources and coaches.
One of the companies that I think everyone has been watching is Poppermost Productions – a 3-man game shop working on SNOW, an authentic winter-sports world that they have just launched on Steam Early Access. The game is set on the Sialia mountain, 8km2 of winter terrain that they’ve spent considerable time imagining and building.
What is interesting, and perhaps slightly unique about SNOW and the Poppermost strategy, is how they are trying to build in player characterization, which translates into the offline world too. For example, they’ve approached several big winter sport brands about sponsoring gear and equipment in-game, which should help the game boost their offline presence. In addition, the team have closely worked with real-life ski professionals, helping to ensure authenticity and of course, the collaborations certainly don’t hurt their marketing efforts.
“With SNOW we wanted to provide players and winter sports enthusiasts with an authentic experience. Skiing is all about freedom, creativity and exploration, and SNOW delivers exactly that! We’ve removed all of the restrictions and clutter that we traditionally see in action sports games and with SNOW; allow players to approach the game the way they want”, said Alexander Bergendahl, CEO and Game Director at Poppermost Productions.
