Truecaller hires Chief Commerical Officer – first order of business is a Premium service

Written by on August 21, 2013

Last month, Truecaller were looking for a Chief Commerical Officer and they found one. Ted Nelson, formerly an SVP of Sales at Stardoll was recruited to Truecaller to help build a commerical side to the already impressive company.

With over 20 million registered users, they have a very nice base to work from, and today Truecaller have announced that they are launching a Premium service for Android users. The service will start at $.0.99 a month.

Premium features include:

  • See who viewed your profile
  • No advertising
  • Monthly contact requests

I spoke briefly with Kim Fai Kok, the Marketing manager at Truecaller:

We are not charging for anything that was free before. This is how the product is evolving. If we want to continue to develop, we have the ads to support our development and to keep Truecaller’s basic features free. You will be able to upgrade to premium, which will get rid of ads, let you see who has viewed your profile, and also gives you contact requests to get in touch with people by name. We are grateful for your support and understanding.
