Today I’m talking with Finnur Sverrisson – CEO of Qnekt – a service designed to help both organisers and particpants of conferences get the most out of each event, by providing a set of networking tools.
Finnur, tell us about your background?
Born and raised in Iceland, a worker since childhood that started my first company at the age of 11. Found my way to Sweden at the age of 18. Graduated from the Kaospilots in Malmö in 2009. Since then worked as a event coordinator, marketer, process designer and as a speaker.
What is Qnekt – and what problem are you solving?
Qnekt solves the problem that today you can’t find a nicely designed white label conference app. If you want one for your conference you need to make your own. That costs a lot of time and money and the end result is most commonly not that great. With Qnekt you will be able to create you own fully functional app, packed with information and features and ready to launch to your participants within minutes.
Is the app more aimed towards conference organisers or participants?
Both actually. For the event organisers – Qnekt makes it easy to manage programs, push out information, get answers/data through polling, get feedback and statistics from your event. For the participants it helps you get rid of the event clutter. Through venue maps, a ‘create your own schedule’ function, notes and the best of all chat through in app messages with other participants. Book a meeting before the event, during, and long after.
As a participant you wont need to download multiple event apps -just one, we gather all events in one app.
How big is this market?
2,5 billion SEK In Sweden alone, but we went global directly, partnering with re-sellers abroad. Actually we held a live event between Malmö and Barbados this week, all communicating through Qnekt and live video. We sold to the first 5 conferences before even writing one line of code.
Who are the competitors and how are you unique?
There are a few, two in particular, but the biggest competitors make specially designed event apps way under the market price. Compared to our two biggest competitors we have a clean design and in app messages. In addition, we charge per participant.
By cutting away the admin of information from the event organizer into the app we are able to cut the prices drastically. One conference that I produced, the event cost was 250.000SEK, with our app this year they paid 15.000SEK
