Bontouch: “Our mission is to be the best mobile-development shop in the world”

Today I’m talking with Emre Ergenekon, an iOS developer at Bontouch -  an app development company that works with SEB and Rebtel among others.

Hi Emre, tell us about yourself and your background?

I’m a recent MCS graduate from KTH with a passion for mobile development. For a while, San Francisco was my base where I got introduced to a strong tech culture. Today I work with various iOS projects at Bontouch as well as building our company culture and contributing to the community by hosting meetups and such at our office. I may also be the only Norwegian Turk living in Sweden!

So, what is Bontouch and what problem are you trying to solve?

We love user friendly mobile apps, as simple as that! Services that surprise you and put a smile on your face. To paraphrase Mr Jobs, insanely great mobile services.

Our clients are mainly large organizations with strong brands and core services, that want to lead the mobile revolution and not only follow. True mobile services are born mobile, not only small peepholes towards the web.

We eat apps for breakfast and see ourselves as explorers in the new app world.

Who is on the team and how you got together?

The company was founded by Martin Forsling (CEO) and Pontus Axelsson (CTO), both with a strong mobile background from previous startups like Valtech and Appear Networks. As the iPhone took off they both independently realized that finally there was a platform for real user friendly mobile services. Today we are twenty employees, and we maintain a strong focus on mobile tech and interaction design.

This is a competitive space – how are you unique?

I would say in three areas; focus, focus and focus… On a more serious note, we focus only on mobile services and have done that from the ‘get-go’. We are pretty good at it by now, and offer a one-stop-shop with strategy, development and governance of mobile in one place. We develop mainly mobile tools or services that you use over time, and try to stay away from purely marketing apps. Finally our strong company culture have attracted several aces which has led us into technically demanding areas like OCR, AR, streaming media etc which not many other companies have mastered.

So, where is Bontouch at right now – what kind of clients are you currently working with?

Our largest client is the bank SEB, where we have developed both their consumer and corporate solution. Another large client is the IP-telephony company Rebtel. Finally Whitelines, a stationary company, has been an interesting client lately that we have developed a whole new concept for.

What are the next steps for you guys?

Our vision is to become the best mobile developer in the world, simply because we want to work with the coolest international brands and services.

The next step is to go international in order to be able to attract these clients, and we are for example attending LeWeb in London next week. Our new office at Drottninggatan in Stockholm also has plenty of room for more passionate people!
