Moor & More: A new VC on the hunt for the next Angry Birds

Written by on May 28

Every investor is looking for the next Angry Birds – the next big thing in tech. Well, Kaj Hed – one of the men behind Angry Birds has, together with some colleagues, started an investment company here in Stockholm – with the aim of finding Swedish tech-entrepreneurs with global ambitions.

The firm is called Moor & More and is made up of Kerstin Cooley, Katja Bergman and Bengt Häger and they are currently situated in central Stockholm – interestingly working from the Rovio offices.

The company doesn’t seem to have a website yet, but I’ll be sure to let everyone know as soon as one pops up.

Kerstin Cooley had this to say about Swedish startups:

“In Sweden, there is a lack of capital for small businesses at an early stage of development. The technical training is good in Sweden and the country is an ideal breeding ground for digital companies. There are lots of small companies and networks around the universities in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund, Umeå and Linköping. Smartphone penetration is extremely high and a trend-sensitive population in combination with mobile broadband makes Sweden a good test market for new products.

The fact that Sweden is a small market means that contractors often think globally from the start. The labor force is loyal, you work longer in their companies than for example in Silicon Valley where employees are much more mobile. Moor is different from many business angels by being able to invest more. We can go in early or at a later stage and we are long term. An initial investment can be 1-2 million, and if it works, we are willing to go in with more later”.

From what I hear Kaj Hed and Moor is a strategic Rovio investor. Not a true financial investor. They only look for startups that can leverage themselfs on the Rovio ecosystem. So any generic startup is not interesting for Moor.

Yes, I should’ve been clearer on that – particuarly interested in gaming of course.
